Ejuke, Akor Adams Get Luis García Plaza As New Coach At Sevilla

Sevilla have turned to Luis García Plaza in a bid to steady their season, handing the experienced coach a deal until 2027 after sacking Matías Almeyda.

The La Liga side confirmed the change on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after Almeyda’s exit. The decision follows a difficult run that has dragged the club into a scrap near the foot of the table.

Sevilla FC have reached an agreement with Madrid-born coach Luis García Plaza (01/12/1972), who will take charge of the first team until 2027,” the club said in a statement.

The appointment signals a fresh start under new leadership for Nigerian pair Chidera Ejuke and Akor Adams as Sevilla battle to escape relegation.

The 53-year-old Plaza arrives with a solid résumé in Spanish football. He began his coaching journey at Unión Deportiva Altea and has since built a reputation across the top flight, taking charge of clubs including Levante, Getafe and Villarreal.

His most recent spell came at Deportivo Alavés, where he guided the side back to La Liga and ensured their survival before departing in December 2024.

Sevilla’s struggles have been hard to ignore. After finishing 17th last term, they sit just above the relegation zone this season, only three points separating them from the bottom three.

Almeyda, who oversaw 32 matches in all competitions, paid the price after a 2-0 defeat to Valencia deepened the club’s concerns.

Plaza now takes charge of a side searching for stability and results, with Sevilla hoping his experience can halt the slide and restore some calm to a turbulent campaign.
