Akor Adams, Chidera Ejuke Set For Fresh Start As Sevilla Sack Almeyda
Nigerian duo Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke are bracing for a new chapter at Sevilla FC after the club parted ways with head coach Matías Almeyda.
The decision followed a damaging 2-0 home defeat to Valencia CF, a result that dragged Sevilla closer to trouble in La Liga.
Sevilla sit 15th with nine matches left, holding a slim three-point cushion above the relegation zone, and the change in the dugout offers Adams and Ejuke a chance to reset.
“Matías Almeyda has been relieved of his duties as Sevilla FC first-team head coach,” the club said.
“Sevilla FC want to thank Matías Almeyda and his team for their efforts and professionalism and wish them the best for the future.”
The shake-up could not come sooner for Adams. The striker, Sevilla’s leading scorer this season, was left out of the squad for the Valencia clash after the coach questioned his display against FC Barcelona.
He has seven league goals in 24 appearances and will hope a new manager restores his place and confidence in the run-in.
Ejuke, who has one goal in 21 outings, is also chasing a bigger role as Sevilla’s fight to stay clear of the bottom three.
Almeyda’s absence had already been felt in recent weeks. The Argentine was serving a seven-match touchline ban after a confrontation with an official and had not been on the bench since mid-February.
His exit now hands Sevilla a clean slate ahead of a tense finish to the season.
With the international break offering time to regroup, attention turns to a crucial meeting with fellow strugglers Real Oviedo on April 5.
