Super Eagles’ Akor Adams Scores Twice For Sevilla Days After Returning From AFCON 2025

Nigerian striker, Akor Adams marked his return from international duty in unforgettable fashion on Monday night, scoring twice off the bench to rescue a 2-2 draw for Sevilla FC against Elche CF and bring an end to the club’s four-match losing run across all competitions.

Akor Adams, fresh from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), produced a decisive cameo that transformed the match after Sevilla had fallen two goals behind.

Elche made a confident start and were rewarded inside the opening quarter of an hour. Martim Neto split the Sevilla defence with a clever pass that released Aleix Febas on the edge of the area. The midfielder took full advantage, driving his effort beyond a slightly exposed Odysseas Vlachodimos to give the hosts the lead.

The home side, who have struggled for consistency this season with only two wins in their last 13 league outings, doubled their advantage shortly after the restart. Germán Valera found space in the box and finished calmly to put Elche firmly in control.

Sevilla head coach Matías Almeyda turned to Adams at the start of the second half, and the decision paid immediate dividends. The 25-year-old pulled one back to end Sevilla’s five-match goal drought in competitive action and shift the momentum.

As the clock ticked into stoppage time, Sevilla were handed a lifeline when referee Ricardo de Burgos pointed to the spot for a handball in the Elche area. Adams showed composure under pressure, converting the penalty to complete his brace and secure a share of the points.

Fellow Nigerian and AFCON returnee Chidera Ejuke was introduced in the 65th minute and played his part in steadying Sevilla as they finally halted a run of defeats that had stretched back to December 17, just days after both players departed for the tournament.

Adams was a key figure for the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the AFCON, featuring in all seven matches and contributing two goals and two assists as the team finished in third place.
