Benjamin Fredrick Targets Premier League Debut After Signing New Brentford Contract
Nigeria defender Benjamin Fredrick has set his sights on making his Premier League debut after signing a new four-year contract with Brentford and securing promotion to the club’s first-team squad.
The Premier League side confirmed on Friday that Benjamin Fredrick, 21, has committed his future to the club with a new long-term deal following his impressive progress with the B team.
Fredrick said the milestone was a proud moment for both himself and his family while acknowledging the support he has received since arriving in West London.
“It’s a great feeling. I’m happy and proud of myself, and my family are proud of me as well,” Fredrick told the club’s official website.
“The club has helped me a lot. When I came here, I was a little bit nervous and shy. I didn’t know how to do the basics because where I’m from is a little bit different to here.
“Especially Neil when I first came here. He always encouraged me, never shouted when I made mistakes and just told me to keep my head down and keep playing. He’s helped me grow as a player and a person as well.”
Fredrick paid tribute to former Brentford B head coach Neil MacFarlane, who now serves as an assistant first-team coach, for helping him settle quickly and develop both on and off the pitch.
With his place in the senior squad now secured, the Nigerian is determined to keep progressing and force his way into Brentford’s matchday plans next season.
“I just want to keep pushing and learning every single day,” Fredrick said.
“My aim is to make my debut with the first team, get Premier League minutes and give my best when I have the opportunity.”
