El-Rufai Will Spend Night In EFCC Custody – Sources

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, will spend the night in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Naija News reports that El-Rufai voluntarily presented himself at the EFCC headquarters on Monday after an invitation from the anti-graft agency.

An insiders who spoke with Cable, disclosed El-Rufai, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), will spend the night in custody as investigators continue to question him about alleged financial improprieties during his tenure as governor.

The source said, “He is in our custody, and he is going to spend the night there.”

Another source said the former governor may be released after further interrogation on Tuesday, depending on the progress of investigations.

The former Kaduna governor has also been invited by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and is expected to be interrogated on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State House of Assembly on Monday reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability as hundreds of citizens stormed the complex to protest the ongoing probe of the administration of El-Rufai.

The protesters, led by Ambassador Yerima Shettima of the Northern Stakeholders Consultative Initiative and Aliyu Muhammad of the Coalition of Kaduna Stakeholders Forum, submitted a formal letter to the Speaker, Hon. Yusuf Dahiru Liman, demanding updates on the legislative investigation.

Addressing the demonstrators after receiving their petition, Speaker Liman disclosed that the Assembly had already taken concrete steps on the matter.

He revealed that a committee constituted in June 2024 to investigate the alleged misappropriation of N432bn had concluded its assignment and submitted its report to the appropriate authorities.

According to him, the House would not be deterred from carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.
