Bayern Munich’s new manager, Thomas Tuchel, has acknowledged that he was taken aback by the appointment.

Naija News has reported that the German Bundesliga giants appointed Thomas Tuchel to replace Julian Nagelsmann who was sacked despite beating Paris Saint Germain home and away in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 this season.

The management of the club believes that Bayern Munich have not been playing well enough and have not been consistent even though they are currently a point behind first-placed Borussia Dortmund.

Hence, the management believes that Thomas Tuchel who was sacked by Chelsea over 6 months ago could give the club the desired consistency.

Naija News recalls that the 49-year-old Tuchel had coached Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint Germain before he was appointed at Chelsea where he won one UEFA Champions League, one UEFA Super Cup, and one FIFA Club World Cup.

While reacting to his new appointment in his first press conference as Bayern Munich coach, Tuchel said, “Believe me or not, I was a bit dumbstruck in the first 30 seconds of our first discussion.

“I didn’t know what we were talking about. It became clear that it was for right now.

“I was completely surprised. The timing was surprising. There was no contact beforehand.”

Interestingly, Tuchel’s first game in charge of Bayern Munich is against his former team and current table-leaders, Borussia Dortmund on April 1.

The winner of the Bundesliga game which will kick off at Allianz Arena at 17:30 could make or mar the chances of either team winning the league this season.

“It’s the (big) match in German football,” Thomas Tuchel said.

“It has another level of importance”.
