Video: You Are Intimidating And Insulting Me – Sowore Clashes With Lawyer
Former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore has clashed with a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, while attempting to address journalists at the Federal High Court.
Naija News reports that a viral video had showed the lawyer confronting Sowore, warning that the courtroom was not an appropriate venue for a press briefing.
Sowore disagreed with the lawyer’s position, saying, “You’re intimidating me and insulting my intelligence because you’re introducing yourself to me as a SAN. I also have my own SANs.”
He argued that no law prohibits addressing journalists inside the courtroom.
However, the SAN rejected Sowore’s argument.
“I have practised for close to three decades and have never seen this happen,” the lawyer said while urging the journalists to move the interview outside the court premises.
“The court must serve as a venue of justice, not a conference,” the lawyer added.
Meanwhile, Sowore, has stated that he will not join well-known opposition figures, including Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar.
Naija News reports that the former presidential candidate said he believes many opposition politicians lack real interest in changing Nigeria’s political system.
Sowore, in an interview on Channels TV, explained that a number of opposition politicians are in their positions not because they oppose the government’s failures, but because they did not build strong ties with the current administration.
He argued that such leaders are focused on personal gain rather than addressing the deep problems facing the country.
The publisher described true opposition as the effort of ordinary Nigerians, including youths, unemployed citizens, and workers without strong legal protections, who continue to face the consequences of systemic failures.
According to Sowore, these groups represent genuine resistance to the current political structure and its challenges.
He said: “I’m interested in being opposed to the system, but I’m not interested in joining opposition that is not opposed to the rot and the destruction that have been visited upon this country.
“I cannot be in opposition with the people whose only agenda, whose manifesto, whose demeanour is to come and loot, destroy and render this country as one of the worst countries in the world. That is not opposition to me.
“That might be opposition for the sake of opposition or for the nomenclature of opposition and that’s what has been our position.
“People have been cheated, the weak and those who are oppressed; that’s the opposition we need, that’s a solid opposition that we are driving and we want to drive.”
