Presidency Speaks On Buhari’s Second-Term Inauguration

The Presidency has revealed that the second-term inauguration ceremony of President Muhammadu Buhari on May 29 will be a low-key event.

It added that most of the events scheduled to hold during the inauguration will now be held during the first observance of June 12 as the National Democracy Day.

Naija News recalls President Buhari, in 2018, approved June 12 as the new democracy day in Nigeria in honour of the contributions of late Chief MKO Abiola to Nigeria’s return to democracy.

Daily Trust reports the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, while speaking with state house correspondents, announced the development on the low-key inauguration for the President.

He disclosed the decision was reached during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday, 8 May 2019.

He added that it will be unwise financially for the country to have two major celebrations within a two-week interval.

Alh Mohammed added further that the details of the events slated for the two ceremonies will be unveiled at a world press conference slated for May 20th in Abuja.

“Since the first observance of June 12 as Democracy Day falls into an election year, and as a measure to sustain June 12 as Democracy Day, the celebration of the inauguration and the advancement of democracy in the country will now take place on June 12,” he said.
