1. 2019 Elections: INEC publishes list of candidates for 2019 general elections

The list of eligible candidates for the 2019 general elections has been published by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday.

The list entails the names of candidates for the presidential, senatorial, House of Reps and state Assemblies and their parties.

2. Finally, PDP’s Atiku Abubakar storms United States

The Presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has finally visited the United States of America, Naija News can authoritatively report.

Naija News reports that Abubakar, a former Vice President of Nigeria, arrived at “God’s own country” on Thursday, January 17, having departed Nigerian on Wednesday evening.

3. INEC fails to include APC among parties to contest Rivers State senatorial election

Names of candidates for the national assembly election in Rivers state, has been released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

However, as court ruled, the logo and names of the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were not included in the list.

4. NGF meeting cancelled as Governors shun discussion on minimum wage

The scheduled meeting of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) expected to discuss the new minimum wage on Wednesday was cancelled.

Naija News understands the meeting was called off as the governors present failed to make a quorum.

Only four governors were personally in attendance at the meeting while four others sent their deputies to represent them.

5. Why Onnoghen’s case cannot be handled by the National Judicial Council – Sagay

According to Itse Sagay, chairman of presidential advisory committee against corruption (PACAC), the case against Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen cannot be handled by the National Judicial Council (NJC).

In a statement on Wednesday, the senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN) said “not even a baby” expects the council, chaired by the CJN, to indict him of the accusations against him.

6. Appeal Court sacks APC’s Tonye Cole for the second time

A Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, has struck out an appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) challenging the ruling of the Justice Chiwendu Nworgu of the Rivers State High Court, which nullified the party’s Wards, Local Governments, and State Congresses.

Naija News recalls that appellate court had on December 12, 2018, struck out the same appeal against the State High Court decision for filing out of the stipulated time in the constitution.

7. Ekiti State Assembly impeaches Deputy Speaker for the second time

The Deputy Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr Segun Adewumi, has on Thursday been impeached by the house.

According to reports, the removal of Mr. Adewumi, was instigated by allegation of gross misconduct brought against him.

8. I feel unsafe in my office – Remi Tinubu

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, representing Lagos central in the upper chamber of the National Assembly, has said she does not feel safe in her office.

Tinubu made this known on Thursday while speaking on a recent incident, where her offices was burgled and some ‘critical’ items carted away.

9. Army troops successfully repel Boko Haram attackers in Gajiram of Borno State

The Nigerian Army troops have successfully clamped down attacks intended attack by Boko Haram terrorists at Gajiram community in Ngazai Local Government Area of Borno state.

In a statement by Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, the troops killed several insurgents and recovered weapons when the terrorists tried to infiltrate the community on Tuesday.

10. The official pictures from Simi and Adekunle Gold’s wedding

Celebrity couple and singers, Adekunle Gold and Simi recently got married in a private wedding which only had 300 invited guests in attendance.

Fans and the general public have since been on the look out for pictures from the wedding ceremony but these has been hard to come by.
