Governors Shun Meeting On New Minimum Wage

The scheduled meeting of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) expected to discuss the new minimum wage on Wednesday was cancelled.

Naija News understands the meeting was called off as the governors present failed to make a quorum.

Only four governors were personally in attendance at the meeting while four others sent their deputies to represent them.

The governors of Jigawa, Bauchi, Zamfara, and Adamawa States were present while those of Enugu, Katsina, Nasarawa and Kaduna were represented by their deputies according to Sahara Reporters.

Abdulaziz Yari, Chairman of the NGF and Zamfara State Governor, directed a staff of the secretariat to inform journalists about the cancellation of the meeting.

Recall the state governors and the Nigerian Labour Congress have so far failed to agree on the amount to be paid as the new minimum wage to Nigerian workers.

The organized labour is insisting on the payment of N30,000 as new minimum wage while the governors say they can only pay N22,500.
