The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a ₦10 billion suit filed by Nollywood actor Emeka Ike against Lere Olayinka, an aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Naija News reports that Justice Salim Ibrahim dismissed the case on Wednesday, ruling that it was not properly filed and that Ike failed to provide enough evidence to support his claims.

Ike sued Olayinka after the aide allegedly shared details of his voter registration transfer from Imo State to Abuja on his 𝕏 account in May without his permission.

The actor argued that the publication violated his right to privacy and asked the court to award him ₦10 billion in damages.

He also sought an order directing Olayinka to delete the post and issue a written apology.

However, Olayinka denied wrongdoing, arguing that the published document contained only Ike’s name and passport photograph, which were already available to the public.

INEC also opposed the suit, maintaining that the information was not confidential and that the law allowed the commission to make certain voter details available to the public.

Olayinka further argued that he did not obtain the information illegally and was not responsible for protecting Ike’s personal data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.

The court on Wednesday upheld the objections raised by Olayinka and INEC and dismissed the suit for lack of proof.
