Stop Pleading For Criminals – Ex-police PRO, Adejobi Warns Nigerians

The Deputy Commissioner of Operations in Delta State, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has warned Nigerians against mounting pressure on the police and other security agencies to release or pardon suspected criminals.

Adejobi, a former spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, said such interventions were shameful and capable of weakening the fight against crime in the country.

He made the remarks in a post shared on his official 𝕏 handle on Monday, where he declared that anyone who pleads for a criminal to evade justice should also be regarded as a criminal.

Adejobi said he would not entertain appeals from individuals seeking the release or pardon of persons accused of crime.

He said his position on crime and criminality remained firm, adding that attempts to influence security agencies in favour of suspected criminals would not succeed.

“I always maintain my stance and principles when it comes to fighting crimes and criminality. Don’t even bother to contact me, pleading for a criminal. It’s shameful, and it won’t work out well,” he wrote.

The senior police officer further warned that those who pressure law enforcement agencies to overlook criminal acts were part of the problem.

“Anyone begging and mounting pressure on the police and security agencies to release or pardon a criminal or overlook a crime is also a criminal,” he added.

Adejobi also called on the country’s security architecture and citizens to remain resolute in the fight against crimes and social vices.

According to him, curbing criminality requires collective firmness from both law enforcement agencies and members of the public.

“No two ways about it. We need to stand firm, remain resolute in curbing crimes and vices in our society, collectively,” he said.

Adejobi maintained that justice must not be compromised and that those accused of crimes should be allowed to face the law without undue interference.
