Brighton Boss Hürzeler Excited By Arrival Of Nigerian Teenager Zadok Yohanna

Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Fabian Hürzeler has welcomed the signing of Nigerian youngster Zadok Yohanna, describing the teenager as an exciting talent capable of making a difference in the final third.

The Premier League club completed the signing of the highly rated Zadok Yohanna, 18, from AIK on Saturday, June 6, 2026, after reportedly seeing off interest from Chelsea and Newcastle.

Yohanna’s move marks another step in a remarkable rise that began when he left Ikon Allah Football Academy in Kaduna for Sweden just over a year ago. Since then, he has caught the eye with nine goal contributions in 12 appearances for AIK this year.

Speaking after the transfer was confirmed, Hürzeler said he was eager to begin working with the Nigerian.

“I’m looking forward to working with Zadok,” the German told BBC Sport.

“Having seen his games and his attributes, he is a player who can impact games in the final third.”

The Brighton manager also stressed the need for patience as Yohanna settles into life in England and adapts to the demands of the Premier League.

“He’s still young and will need time to adapt to the club and the Premier League, but he’s an exciting player to watch, and he brings the kind of creativity we know our fans will enjoy,” he said.

Yohanna is expected to join his new teammates for pre-season next month as he seeks to earn a place in Hürzeler’s plans for the 2026/27 campaign.

The teenager revealed that he had already spoken with the Brighton boss, who encouraged him to remain focused on his development.

“He urged me to keep fighting and working hard. I will give everything I have, and I really want to win trophies with the team,” Yohanna told the club’s website.

Yohanna becomes Brighton’s first signing of the summer as the Seagulls continue preparations for the new season, which will also see them compete in the UEFA Conference League.
