Spanish La Liga club, Getafe have signed out-of-favour Manchester United forward, Mason Greenwood on a season-long loan weeks after the Red Devils announced he won’t play at Old Trafford.

Recall that Mason Greenwood has been out of football since January 2022 after his girlfriend Harriet Robson accused him of attempted rape and sexual assault.

Due to these allegations, he was arrested, jailed, suspended from Manchester United, and brands withdrew their sponsorship deals from him.

Fortunately for him, in February 2023, all the allegations were withdrawn from him which makes him free to return to football.

However, Manchester United insisted on embarking on an internal investigation which lasted for six-month over the allegations slammed on the 21-year-old forward.

After the investigation, Manchester United declared that Mason Greenwood wasn’t guilty of the allegations but had to leave the club on mutual consent.

The club had no choice but to take this decision after some fans of the club protested against the possibility of Greenwood returning to Erik ten Hag’s squad this season and the fear that United might face backlash from sponsors if Greenwood is allowed back to the squad.

The youngster now has the opportunity to rebuild his career in La Liga on a season-long loan and Naija News gathered that Getafe would cover part of his wages while United would cover the rest.

A statement from Manchester United reads, “The move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United.

“The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.”

Greenwood has 35 goals in 129 games since making his United debut in 2019 when he was 17 years old. His current contract with United is valid until June 30, 2025.
