Manchester United have confirmed that they have concluded the investigation into the rape scandal involving their 21-year-old academy product Mason Greenwood.

Mason Greenwood last played for Manchester United in January 2022 as he started the year with a rape, sexual assault, and threat to life legal battle.

Everything went south for the then-vibrant footballer when his girlfriend, Harriet Robson, took to her Instagram account to share evidence of Greenwood’s reported misconducts.

Immediately afterward, Greenwood was arrested, Manchester United suspended him from the squad but kept paying him as they continued with their internal investigation, and brands discontinued their relationship with him.

After a prolonged legal battle, all charges against the out-of-favour England international were dropped, and his girlfriend, Harriet Robson reunited with him, she became pregnant for him and gave birth for him barely two months ago.

Despite the unexpected twist in the saga, Manchester United refused to integrate him back into the squad as they insisted on continuing with their internal investigation even though all the charges against the Jamaican-born Englishman were dropped.

Amidst that, some section of the club’s fans, especially women, and the club’s women’s team, continue to agitate against Mason Greenwood’s return to the team.

Earlier today, August 16, Manchester United issued a lengthy statement in which they announced that they have concluded their investigation into Greenwood’s rape scandal.

However, the club did not disclose the outcome of the investigation and said they haven’t decided on Greenwood’s future yet. They also revealed that even though Mason Greenwood has been left out of the squad for over a year, the Red Devils are still catering to his welfare.

The club’s statement reads in parts, “The fact-finding phase of our investigation is now complete, and we are in the final stages of deciding on Mason’s future.

“Contrary to media speculation, that decision has not yet been made and is currently the subject of intensive internal deliberation. Responsibility ultimately rests with the Chief Executive Officer.

“Once made, the decision will be communicated and explained to the club’s internal and external stakeholders.

“This has been a difficult case for everyone associated with Manchester United, and we understand the strong opinions it has provoked based on the partial evidence in the public domain. We ask for patience as we work through the final stages of this carefully considered process”
