In March 2023, Nigerian comedian, Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth told the world that he would retire from comedy in the next five years.

Since we are now in August 2023, the famous 44-year-old comedian now has barely five years to solidify his retirement plans even though he had told the world that he has made enough money that would sustain him for life when he retires.

Interestingly, less than five months after announcing his intention of retiring from comedy in the next five years, he has enrolled his son, Jason Okpocha in the Liverpool football academy, a move many believe is part of his retirement plans.

Jason Okpocha was born on May 9, 2008, which means he is currently 15-year-old which is still a fair age to start professional football training in a prestigious football academy like that of Liverpool in Merseyside.

In the next five years, Jason will be 20-year-old and at that age, if he is as good as French striker Kylian Mbappe, he could be earning thousands of euros per week.

Recall that at 19, Mbappe moved to Paris Saint Germain for a transfer fee worth €180 million. Recently, a Saudi Pro League club, Al Hilal made an offer to PSG worth €300 million for Mbappe and also offer the player a deal that could amount to €700 million per season at just 24 years old.

Even though Mbappe rejected the offer, many football fans have started the “Mbappe project”, trying to groom their children or younger ones to be as good as the Frenchman to land a similar deal in the future.

Hence, Basketmouth’s decision to send Jason Okpocha to Liverpool football academy is seen as either a project Mbappe or one of his major retirement plans.

Note that Jason is the only son of Basketmouth and his estranged wife, Elsie who he married in November 2010 and divorced in 2022 after giving birth to three kids.

Despite their divorce, the comedian has maintained a very good relationship with his children especially his son, Jason.

Before he made it known that Jason has been taken to the Liverpool academy, he and the youngster were seen joggling a football on a playground recently, a show of father and son bond.
