The new salary demand of Nigerian forward, Victor Osimhen, is reportedly delaying his contract extension with the reigning Italian champions.

Osimhen reportedly asked Napoli to increase his salary to €7 million per year before he would extend his stay at the club beyond this summer.

Napoli and Osimhen are currently negotiating a new deal, and Napoli reportedly want to include a €200 million release clause in the new deal.

Last season, the 24-year-old Nigerian striker had the best season of his career as he recorded 26 goals in 32 Italian Serie A games. He ended the season as the league’s top scorer and helped Napoli to win the Scudetto for the first time in 33 years.

Due to his impressive performance, he has been linked to PSG, Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Bayern Munich.

The club and Victor Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda, had a second discussion over Osimhen’s contract extension, according to Sky Italia.

All parties are eager to ensure that the 24-year-old striker continues at Napoli for at least another season after Calenda indicated Osimhen’s intention to extend his contract. However, all parties involved are yet to agree on Osimhen’s wage demand.

“There is still a lot of gap between the club’s offer and what the player demands, but Napoli know that they can’t lose more assets after the exits of Cristiano Guintoli, Luciano Spalletti, and Kim Min-Jae,” Osimhen’s agent was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen will be PSG’s top priority if Kylian Mbappe decides to leave the club this summer, according to Football-Italia.

In 2021, Mbappe was on the verge of moving to his dream club, Real Madrid before he changed his mind to sign a new two-year deal with PSG with a year extension option.

The two-year deal would expire on June 30, 2024, and Mbappe was expected to trigger the one-year contract extension option this summer. However, the 24-year-old French striker wrote to PSG to inform them that he would not extend the contract but would stay at the side until the end of next season.

But PSG have insisted that Mbappe must sign a new contract this summer if he wants to stay at the club next season as the French side are not ready to lose him for free in 2024.
