Crystal Palace have reappointed Roy Hodgson as the club’s manager after sacking Patrick Vieira due to a poor run of games.

Vieira, who replaced Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park in July 2021, was fired by Palace on Friday after a 12-match losing streak in all competitions.

Hodgson,75, retired as manager after he failed to save Watford from being relegated in May 2022.

He had previously claimed that he did not plan on accepting another managerial role in the Premier League after leaving Watford. He has however accepted to rescue his former club, Crystal Palace, from going down this season.

“It is a privilege to be asked to return to the club, which has always meant so much to me,” said Hodgson.

“Our sole objective now is to start winning matches, and to get the points necessary to ensure our Premier League status.”

While the club’s chairman Steve Parish said, “I would like to welcome Roy and Ray back to the club. We are obviously in a very challenging period but we believe that Roy’s and Ray’s experience, and knowledge of the club and players, alongside Pad,dy can help fulfill the immediate requirement of keeping us in the league.”

Paddy McCarthy who served as interim manager during Sunday’s 4-1 loss at Arsenal remains the club’s assistant coach. While Ray Lewington has been named the first-team coach.

Following their loss at the Emirates Stadium, Palace is currently 12th in the Premier League and are only three points above the drop zone.
