Former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has alleged a new method adopted by vote buyers ahead of the February 25th presidential election in the country.

Naija News reports that due to the currency policy newly implemented by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), naira notes have been scarce across the country. The development is imagined to have frustrated activities of vote buyers in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

However, in a post on his verified Twitter page on Tuesday, Senator Sani alleged that vote buyers have switched from giving gullible electorates cash to collecting their account numbers to transfer funds directly since they cannot access much cash needed.

Sani tweeted: “Vote buyers have resorted to collecting the account numbers of the electorates. There is also sharing palliatives in return for votes.”

In another post on the microblogging platform, the former Kaduna Central Senator said: “We attended a political rally today; nobody gave cash, and nobody was expecting cash. Everyone was moving about and looking at each other like Robots. ‘The CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele’, has turned our lives into soft copy.”

In another tweet also, Sani urged Nigerians to allow their conscience and experience to guide them in electing a competent leader in the Saturday election.

He said: “On Saturday, this country has a date with history. Don’t vote for a Candidate because your Mosques or Churches asked you to do so. Be guided by your conscience and experience & elect a competent leader. A wrong choice is another four years of a journey into darkness.”
