After Ballon d'Or, Osimhen Nominated For 2023 Best FIFA Men's Player Award

Victor Osimhen and Napoli resumed their march toward winning the Serie A for the first time in more than three decades with Sunday’s 3-0 victory over relegation-threatened Cremonese.

The 33-year wait for Napoli seems to be coming to an end with each passing week. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and  Victor Osimhen were the team’s key players at the Stadio Maradona as they successfully ended the weekend with 16 points gap above second-placed Inter Milan.

On his 22nd birthday, Napoli’s winger Kvaratskhelia scored a beautiful solo goal in the 22nd minute to take the lead. Midway through the second half, Osimhen scored his league-high 17th goal of the year, and Eljif Elmas scored 11 minutes afterward to seal the victory.

“The city is making sure that we’re always on the case, we all want to win,” Luciano Spalletti told DAZN after the 3-0 win on Sunday.

“We need to take it one match at a time… we can’t think it’s already done and start thinking about other things, or think everything’s going to look after itself.

“We need to take care of everything ourselves.”

Thanks to their sixth straight league victory, Napoli will be at least 13 points clear of Inter Milan on Tuesday morning, if Inter beat Sampdoria on Monday night.

Napoli Set To Renew Osimhen’s Contract:

Why Osimhen Won't Play Against Portugal - Super Eagles Coach
Nigerian attacker Victor Osimhen is expected to agree to a new deal with Napoli due to his exceptional performance for the Italian club.

To make sure that everyone is on the same page, Cristiano Giuntoli, the sporting director of Napoli, has recently spoken with the representatives of both Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Both the Nigerian and the Georgian are happy at the club and have indicated their intention to stay past this season despite the frequent transfer market speculations.

Napoli are attempting to extend Osimhen’s current contract by at least one year, to June 2026, to protect themselves from Manchester United and Chelsea, who are both interested in the Nigerian. With any expensive add-ons, his current season salary of €4.5 million net might increase significantly.

Things are a little different for Kvaratskhelia, who has a lengthy contract that goes through 2027 but earns a much lower salary. In recognition of his fantastic Serie A debut season, Napoli will discuss increasing his pay at the end of the current campaign.
