Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has refuted rumours of fatalities at the Stephen Keshi Stadium building site.

According to earlier reports, the Stephen Keshi Stadium saw chaos on Thursday morning as a part of the stadium collapsed.

The sources claimed that three individuals died in the tragedy, which spread terror ahead of the National Sports Festival later this month.

Punch states that while the reason for the collapse has not yet been determined, it was learned that it was likely related to the construction’s haste to fulfil the project’s delivery date for usage.

But, in recent update issued by the Commissioner, he debunked the claim and gave a further explanation of the situation of things at the venue.

“Right behind me is the premises of the stadium that is being constructed.

“It does happen that the operator could not properly align the lift when he was taking up some heavy loads up the particular floor and it fell on the wall, and that led it to crash,” he explained.

“Just one person sustained a minor injury and has since been treated, and they have all returned to work.

“So, anybody who is reporting that we lost some persons here, that is not true.” the commissioner stressed.

However, new dates have been announced for the 21st National Sports Festival, which was previously slated to run from November 2–15.

The 2022 NSF, which will be placed in Delta State, will now take place from November 28 to December 10, according to a statement from the Main Organising Committee (MOC).
