The Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi has reacted to Friday’s Appeal Court judgment which struck out the suit seeking to remove him as Governor for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Umahi said the enemies who attempted to remove him from office have failed and he would complete his tenure safely in May 2023.

He boasted that he would continue to defeat those against him regardless of anything they bring up or throw at him.

Naija News recalls the Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu State has upheld the ruling of an Ebonyi State High Court which denied the sack from office of David Umahi and Kelehi Igwe as Governor and Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State respectively.

The appellate court on Friday in a unanimous judgment read by Justice Alfa Belgore, dismissed the suit bought before it for being inconsistent with the Constitution and extant laws of the country.

The suit was instituted by Senator Sonni Ogbuoji and his running mate, Justin Ogbodo Mbam who sought a court order for Umahi and Igwe to be sacked from office following their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in November 2020.

Ogbuoji and Mbam were the APC candidate and running mate respectively for the 2019 governorship election in the state.

Speaking on his victory at the appeal court, Governor Umahi while presiding over the weekly state Executive Council meeting on Friday said the judgment of the appellate court is a victory for the people of the state.

He said after trying to use the courts to remove him from office and failed, those against him have now started writing unsubstantiated petitions against him to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Umahi however said all their plans against him will also fail.

“The enemies have tried using the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the courts but failed.

“They are presently writing all forms of frivolous petitions to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“We will, however, defeat them anywhere they go and would finish strongly,” he said.

The Governor disclosed plans to hold a thanksgiving service on Sunday to appreciate God, stressing that God will continue to defend his administration against the enemies.

“The good thing is that people know that the challenges are mere storm in a tea cup and distractions.

“We will conduct a special praise and worship service on Sunday to thank God for His mercies on the government and the people.

“We will sing praises unto God because he has turned big in everything that concerns us,” he said.
