Dotun Babayemi on Tuesday emerged as the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) parallel governorship primary in Osun State.

Babayemi won the parallel governorship primary conducted by the Olagunsoye Oyinlola-backed faction held at the WIDCOF event centre in Osogbo.

The returning officer of the exercise who announced the results, Adelani Ajanaku, said Babayemi polled 1,781 votes to emerge the winner of the election.

Ajanaku disclosed that the number of accredited voters was 1,907, while void votes were 27, and total valid votes were 1,880.

He said although the party already agreed to field Babayemi as a consensus candidate, some of the delegates still voted for other aspirants who had earlier stepped down.

The returning officer announced that Dele Adeleke, cousin of award-winning international singer, Davido, polled 32 votes to come second while Fatai Akinbade scored 28 votes.

Ajanku added that Akin Ogunbiyi polled 23 votes while Sanya Omirin polled 16 votes.

While giving his acceptance speech, Babayemi appreciated those that voted for him to emerge as the governorship candidate of the PDP.

Babayemi vowed to win the forthcoming governorship election and take Osun back to the years of good governance.

He said: “I hereby accept this nomination to run on the platform of the PDP as the governorship candidate.

“What happened here today was done in line with the law. We at PDP are law-abiding. I call on all of you to come together and support this movement.

Meanwhile, Senator Ademola Adeleke has emerged as the winner of the PDP governorship primary backed by the National Working Committee (NWC).
