Nigerians React As Buhari Appoints Mele Kyari NNPC GMD

A storm of mixed reactions by Nigerians has greeted the appointment of Mele Kolo Kyari as the Group Managing Director for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Naija News had reported earlier that Kyari’s appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari was made known in a statement released by Ndu Ughamadu, Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, NNPC, Abuja, Nigeria’s capital on Thursday,  June 20, 2019.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Mr. Mele Kolo Kyari as the new Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC),” the statement read, adding that the appointment takes effect from July 7, 2019.

Kyari, who replaces Dr. Maikanti Baru as NNPC GMD,  will be the “19th Group Managing Director of the National Oil Company,” the statement added.

Moments after the news of the appointment went viral, Nigerians took to the micro-blogging site, Twitter, to air their opinions on the appointment.
