The presidential election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja, has adjourned sitting in the petition challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 23 presidential election. Naija News recalls Hope Democratic Party (HDP) had earlier filed a motion seeking to stop the swearing-in of President Buhari on May 29, 2019.
A political party, Hope Democratic Party (HDP), has set a motion to seek an order of the presidential election tribunal restraining President Muhammadu Buhari from presenting himself to be sworn-in on May 29th, 2019. Naija News understands that the party is also seeking an order restraining the Chief Justice of Nigeria from swearing-in, administering the oath of office and oath of allegiance to the President on May 29th, 2019.
President Muhammadu Buhari in the Presidential Election tribunal sitting today is being represented by the pioneer Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu. Ribadu who arrived the Tuesday’s proceedings in Abuja, made this announcement when the matter slated for the day, the petition filed by Hope Democratic Party and its candidate, Ambrose Awuru, was called.
President Muhammadu Buhari says he will relinquish power if the Election Tribunal declares Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party, as the winner of the 2019 Presidential election. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has revealed he would accept the outcome of the Presidential Election Tribunal on his petition challenging the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of the 2019 election. Speaking through the spokesperson of his campaign organisation, Segun Sowunmi, Atiku stated that he would not allow Nigeria to experience crisis or spilling of innocent blood in a bid to get justice.
