Senator Ahmed Lawan, the Senate Majority Leader, has assured that the senators who decamped from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) would return to the party before the 2019 general election.

Senator Lawan made this known at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, after APC senators met with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Lawan revealed that the President was briefed on the status of the APC in the senate house and the number of Senators that is left the party.

He added that the PDP has the largest minority with 48 members of the Senate while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has two senators.

The majority leader revealed that less than a days since the APC senators left the party, many of them have expressed regrets for their actions and their willingness to retrace their step.

He revealed that while the defection was as a result of disagreements in the party, the defected lawmakers expect some members from the opposition party to join the ruling party.

Meanwhile, Senator Shehu Sani, the lawmaker representing Kaduna Central, who was surprisingly among those attended the meeting, although he said it does not mean all his grievances have been addressed.

Sani, further expressed confidence that Mr. Adams Oshiomhole’s Leadership of the party would be able to proffer lasting solutions to the problems and grudge tearing the party apart.

Mr Oshiomhole, who also attended the meeting, told State House correspondents that those defected from the APC were misinformed.
