Atiku Under Attack Over Comment On National Grid Collapse

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed sadness over the death of veteran Kano politician, Alhaji Dauda Dangalan, noting that his death has depleted the ranks of the progressive and forward-looking political actors in the country.

Atiku made the declaration in a statement on Sunday signed by his media aide, Paul Ibe in which he reacted to the death of Dangalan.

Naija News reports that Dangalan, an elder statesman was one of the founding members of Northern Elements Progressive Union (NEPU) during the First Republic and later, the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) during the Second Republic.

He died after a protracted illness and has since been buried at Kofar Mazugal cemetery Saturday evening after funeral prayers were held at his residence in Fagge quarters in Kano metropolis with hundreds of sympathizer at the venue

Atiku noted in his condolence message that he learnt a lot from his association with the late Dangalan, particularly about democracy.

The former Vice President said he was shocked by the death of the Kano politician and prayed God to grant him eternal rest.

“Indeed, Dauda Dangalan was a fountain of inspiration; you can’t encounter him without imbibing useful ideas from him. He was a rare politician whose main attraction to politics was service to the people and the desire to liberate the masses from exploitation. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and reward his good deeds with aljanna”, he noted.

Meanwhile, Senator Ali Ndume (APC-Borno South) has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) founding fathers had an agreement to rotate the presidency between the north and south.

Naija News reports that Ndume stated this Ndume while speaking at a roundtable organised by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) in Abuja.

According to the former Senate leader, power remaining in the north in 2023 would be tantamount to a third term for the region.

The lawmaker representing Borno said: “I am against APC producing its presidential candidate from the North. The APC presidential candidate should come from the South. If you have the presidential candidate of the APC from the North, it is tantamount to third term.
