3 Doctors Die, 53 Tests Positive For COVID-19 In Kano

The dreaded COVID-19 global pandemic has reportedly killed no fewer than three medical doctors in Kano State.

Dr Usman Ali, Chairman, Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, who made the disclosure on Monday, January 25 said no fewer than fifty-three medical personnel had contracted the novel virus in the state.

Speaking with newsmen earlier, Dr Ali confirmed that the state lost the third doctor on Monday. He noted that some of its members who recently undergo COVID-19 test came out positive but its yet to add up their names to the already record of 53.

Naija News learnt that the doctors got infected with the deadly disease while attending to patients affected with the disease.

“Presently, we have 53 doctors who tested positive to Covid-19 and three doctors who died as a result of covid-19 in Kano. One of the doctors who died last Monday was a consultant and epidemiologist. He died in isolation centre,” Dr Ali noted.

“We have other doctors who undergo test and came down positive but we are still compiling the data. As at now, we have 53. “Those who tested positive in the past, it was due to lack of some equipment but presently we have the equipment. Some of the equipment was in our secretariate as some of the doctors are yet to come and collect them,” the NMA Chairman stated.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, on Monday, January 25 reported 1,430 new cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

The health agency confirmed the newly found cases of the dreaded disease on its official Twitter account on Monday, Naija News reports.
