1. DSS Finally Breaks Silence, Confirms Sowore’s Arrest With Reasons

The Department of State Services (DSS) has finally broken its silence to confirm the arrest of Omoyele Sowore, a presidential hopeful and publisher of a popular online news website, Sahara Reporters.

The Security agency in its statement noted that Sowore threatened the public peace and safety with his planned protest.

2. Miyetti Allah Leader Killed In Adamawa

Saidu Kolaku, a leader of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Adamawa State, have been killed by unknown gunmen.

The gunmen were reported to have invaded Kolaku home on Saturday and shot him dead.

3. Obasanjo Meets Hausa/Fulani, South West, Kogi Leaders

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has met with Hausa/Fulani leaders in the Southwest, Kogi and Kwara State.

Naija News understands that the meeting which discussed insecurity and banditry in the region was held in Abeokuta Ogun State.

4. Revolution Now Organizers Vow To Continue Protest, Release List Of Demands

Organizers of the Revolution Now protest have vowed to continue with the planned Monday protest despite the convener of the protest, Omo still in the hands of the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Naija News understands that the organisers that include several Civil Society Organizations (CSO) maintained a ‘no-going-back’ stance despite Sowore being in detention and despite the warning from the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu warning the protesters to have a change of mind.

5. DSS Keeping Sowore Away From Us – Lawyer

The head of the legal team of the African Action Congress (AAC), Tope Akinyode, has disclosed that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) are denying his team access to Omoyele Sowore.

Sowore was arrested in the early hours of Saturday over what is believed to be in connection with the planned nationwide protests.

6. Edo Assembly Crisis: Don’t Issue Fresh Proclamation, Court Orders Obaseki

A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has ordered Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State not to issue a fresh proclamation letter as directed by the Nigeria Senate.

The court gave the order following a request by the Deputy Speaker of the Edo House of Assembly, Hon. Yekini Idiaye; and the member representing Ikpoba-Okha Constituency in the Edo Assembly, Hon. Henry Okhuarobo, who filed the application.

7. Police Arrest ‘Killers’ Of Popular Catholic Priest In Enugu

Operatives of the Enugu State Police command have apprehended some suspected killers of the Enugu State Catholic priest, Rev Fr Paul Offu.

Naija News understands that the state Commissioner of Police, Sulieman Balarabe, confirmed the arrest to newsmen in Enugu, on Saturday, August 3.

8. Boko Haram: Why FG Is Yet To Defeat Insurgents – Group

Facts have emerged on the reasons why the federal government is yet to demystify the Boko Haram insurgents despite all the efforts of the Nigerian military troops.

The federal government was on Sunday urged to embark on research on the need to combat insecurity in the nation by revisiting the lacuna in ports across the country.

9. ‘Terrorists’ Arrested Sowore Not DSS – Soyinka

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, on Sunday described the arrest of human rights activists Omoyele Sowore as a “terrorist midnight arrest.”

Naija News had reported earlier that Sowore, a pro-democracy activist posted a tweet on his arrest at 1:25 am on Saturday, August 3.

10. Boko Haram Has Killed More Than 27,000 People Since 2009 – UN

According to data recently released by the United Nations, more than 27,000 people have been killed since the terrorist group Boko Haram began its violence in Nigeria in 2009.

Edward Kallon, the United Nations humanitarian coordinator in Nigeria, said 130,000 people had recently been displaced from their homes, while the insurgency took on a new dimension with the creation of ISIS in West Africa (ISWAP) to supplant Boko Haram during deadly attacks.
