A goalless game in Vancouver could not be settled after 120 minutes, sending the match to penalties. Switzerland kept their composure from the spot to eliminate Colombia and book a quarter-final meeting with Lionel Messi’s Argentina.
France, Morocco, Spain, Belgium, Norway, England and Argentina had already secured their places before Switzerland completed the line-up.

Argentina fought back from two goals down to beat Egypt 3-2, ending the Pharaohs’ impressive run. France squeezed past Paraguay with a 1-0 win, Morocco defeated Canada 3-0, Belgium brushed aside the United States 4-1, and Spain claimed a narrow 1-0 win over Portugal thanks to a stoppage-time winner.
The Round of 16 also saw all three tournament co-hosts bow out. Canada were beaten by Morocco, the United States lost heavily to Belgium and Mexico fell to England.
