Arsenal Launch £55 Million Bid For Guimaraes

Arsenal have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães, but their opening bid for the Brazilian international has been turned down by the Magpies.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed on Thursday that the Gunners made a formal approach for the 28-year-old within the last 24 hours as manager Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his midfield ahead of the new season.

According to Romano, Arsenal opened negotiations with a £55 million offer, but Newcastle immediately rejected the proposal.

The report stated that Newcastle have made it clear they are not prepared to part ways with one of their most influential players for the amount offered by Arsenal.

Guimarães, who has two years remaining on his current contract at St James’ Park, remains a key figure in Eddie Howe’s squad, with the club determined to retain his services.

The Brazilian midfielder has also caught the attention of football fans with his impressive performances for Brazil at the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup.

Although Arsenal are keen to secure his signature, Newcastle’s firm stance means any potential transfer would likely require a significantly improved offer.

Naija News reports that the latest development comes shortly after Arsenal confirmed the permanent signing of Ecuador international defender Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Premier League champions activated the purchase option contained in the defender’s loan agreement, bringing an end to months of speculation surrounding his future.

The North London club agreed a £45 million fee for Hincapie when he joined on loan from the Bundesliga side last summer, with the conditions for the permanent transfer now fulfilled.

Hincapie played a crucial role in Arsenal’s successful Premier League title-winning campaign, making 39 appearances in all competitions under Arteta.

The 24-year-old’s consistent displays helped Arsenal maintain one of the strongest defensive records in English football, with the club conceding the fewest goals in the Premier League over the last three seasons.

With Hincapie’s future now secured, Arsenal are expected to continue strengthening other areas of the squad, with Guimarães emerging as one of Arteta’s priority midfield targets.
