Celebrities Can’t Fix This Country Alone – Peter Okoye Fires Back At Critics

Popular Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, better known as Mr P, has said celebrities cannot single-handedly solve the country’s challenges, stressing that meaningful change requires the involvement of all citizens.

The former member of the now-defunct music group P-Square made the remark while reacting to frequent calls for entertainers and other public figures to speak out against insecurity, poor governance and the economic difficulties facing Nigerians.

Speaking during an interview with a Lagos-based radio station, Mr P acknowledged concerns about the state of the nation and noted that many Nigerians are affected by the same problems.

Naija News reports that he also reflected on his previous comments about distancing himself from discussions about the country’s issues.

According to him, while some public figures may have access to personal security and other forms of protection, many ordinary citizens do not enjoy such privileges.

The artiste maintained that Nigeria belongs to everyone and that the responsibility of improving the country should not be placed on celebrities alone.

The singer said many people often direct their frustration toward entertainers whenever national issues arise, expecting them to lead public campaigns or protests.

I apologise for saying I won’t concern myself with Nigeria’s challenges anymore. I may have security agencies guiding me but not everyone can afford it. This is our country, it is only us who can bring positive changes.

“However, celebrities alone can’t save Nigeria. All those clamouring for celebrities to speak up against bad governance should redirect their energy. It is not a matter of celebrities. This government has failed us all. But together, we can bring the desired change,” he stated.
