Steve Nicol Slams Chelsea After 3-0 Defeat To Everton
Steve Nicol has torn into Chelsea following their 3-0 loss to Everton, accusing the players of lacking drive and urgency.
The Blues slumped to a fourth straight defeat in all competitions on Saturday at Hill Dickinson Stadium, where Everton delivered a commanding display.
Beto struck twice in the 33rd and 62nd minutes before Iliman Ndiaye added a superb third in the 76th minute to seal the result.
Speaking on ESPN FC, Nicol questioned Chelsea’s attitude throughout the game.
He said, “One must question the commitment displayed today. At no point did they seem engaged.
“There was nothing to take pride in. Occasionally, one can leave a venue, especially when playing away, thinking, ‘We were unfortunate, or the goalkeeper made an error.’”
The former Liverpool defender, who won four league titles during his time at Anfield, stressed that the entire Chelsea squad showed little or no ambition.
“However, assessing this performance, every aspect was dreadful, terrible. The most significant issue for me is that my team exhibited no ambition,” he said.
“They played from the first minute to nearly the 90th, merely accepting the situation. Everton appeared eager, while Chelsea lacked the necessary determination.”
Despite enjoying 64 per cent possession and completing 617 passes at 89 per cent accuracy, Chelsea struggled to make their dominance count. They registered only four shots on target, compared to Everton’s nine.
The visitors also failed to convert two clear chances against David Moyes’s side.
Chelsea remain sixth in the Premier League table with 48 points from 31 matches, sitting just two points above Everton.
