Zamfara Governor, Dauda Lawal Announces Defection From PDP To APC

The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, is set to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made on Monday by the Deputy Governor, Mani Malam Mummuni, on behalf of Governor Lawal in a video which has gone viral on the internet.

In the video, Deputy Governor Mummuni was seen praising the APC while jubilating with other members of the cabinet following the move to the ruling party.

Naija News reports that following the announcement, the PDP flag has been removed from the Zamfara State Government House in the presence of the Deputy Governor and Governor Lawal’s cabinet.

Similarly, former presidential aide and chieftain of the APC,  Bashir Ahmad, confirmed the development in a post via his 𝕏 account.

“Latest reports from Zamfara indicate that Governor Dauda Lawal, along with members of his cabinet, has defected from the PDP to the APC,” he wrote.

At the time of filing this report, Governor Lawal had yet to issue an official statement explaining the reasons for the move.

However, Naija News reports that the PDP has been embroiled in a series of legal and political battles, particularly over its national leadership structure.

The party’s disturbance also includes a disputed national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, in November 2025.
