Fikayo Tomori Relieved Ademola Lookman Did Not Join Inter Milan

Fikayo Tomori has admitted he is relieved Ademola Lookman did not complete a move to Inter Milan last summer, describing the Nigerian forward as one of the most difficult attackers he has faced in Serie A.

Naija News reports that Lookman had been strongly linked with a transfer from Atalanta BC to Inter during the previous transfer window, but the Bergamo club refused to sell the winger to a domestic rival for less than €50 million.

The Nigerian international remained in Bergamo for the opening months of the season before sealing a January switch to Atlético Madrid. Since arriving in Spain, the forward has made an immediate impression, registering four goals and three assists in 10 appearances in all competitions.

His contributions have also helped Atlético reach the final of the Copa del Rey, where they will face Real Sociedad at La Cartuja Stadium on April 18.

Speaking in an interview with The Athletic, the AC Milan defender listed Lookman among the standout attackers he has encountered during his five years at the San Siro.

“There are a few. Dybala plays in spaces that you don’t want him to get into. Lautaro Martinez, because his movement is so good,” the defender said.

“Ademola Lookman, maybe because I know him, but I always find it difficult to play against him because he’s always on the move.”

Tomori also revealed he joked with Lookman after the forward’s proposed switch to Inter collapsed.

“I spoke to him when he stayed [at Atalanta], and I said, ‘If you went to Inter, we wouldn’t have been friends anymore,’” the English defender said with a smile.

The 28-year-old centre-back, who chose to represent England ahead of Nigeria, also singled out Victor Osimhen for praise.

“Osimhen is just relentless; he does not stop running for 90 minutes,” he added.

After initially joining Milan on loan, Tomori has gone on to make more than 200 appearances for the Italian giants during his five-year spell at the club.
