Hansi Flick Defends Lamine Yamal After Substitution Reaction In Barcelona’s 3-0 Win Over Levante

FC Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has brushed aside concerns over Lamine Yamal’s visible frustration after the teenager was substituted late in Sunday’s comfortable victory against Levante UD.

Barcelona returned to the summit of LaLiga with a convincing 3-0 win on 22 February, a result that highlighted their growing authority in the title race. Yet one of the game’s talking points came in the closing stages when Yamal was replaced by Roony Bardghji in the 88th minute.

With the match already settled and the Blaugrana firmly in control, the decision appeared straightforward. Still, the 18-year-old winger could not hide his disappointment.

As he made his way to the bench, he shook his head, clearly unhappy to be leaving the pitch while chasing another contribution.

Flick, however, saw no reason for alarm. Speaking after the match, the German coach welcomed the youngster’s reaction, describing it as a sign of hunger rather than dissent.

“I love that he is disappointed. It shows his mentality,” the coach said.

“He always wants to score goals, pass the ball to teammates, and support the team in every way possible. That is good. That’s exactly what we hope our players will give us.

“He is 18 years old. We have to take care of him. He gets a lot of playing time and today the game stayed under control. It was the right time to let him rest.”

Yamal has enjoyed significant minutes this season, and with the fixtures piling up, careful management appears to be part of the long-term strategy.

On the pitch, goals from Marc Bernal, Frenkie de Jong and Fermin Lopez sealed the three points and lifted the Catalan side above Real Madrid CF at the top of the table.

Madrid’s 2-1 defeat to CA Osasuna has left them trailing by a single point, tightening what is shaping up to be a gripping title contest.
