AFCON 2025: Super Eagles To Get Improved Bonus For Next round, Chukwueze Jokes About Morocco Weather
Super Eagles players will pocket $30,000 each for reaching the Round of 16 at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after fresh talks with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
According to ScoreNigeria, the Super Eagles had turned down an initial offer of $15,000 per player. Negotiations later produced a revised figure of $30,000, which represents an improvement on the bonuses earned at the last AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire. Both sides have also agreed on incentive packages for the latter stages of the tournament.
Naija News reports that the Super Eagles confirmed their place in the knockout rounds with a tense 3-2 victory over the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia on Saturday December 27, a result that sealed qualification with a game to spare.
Eric Chelle’s side are scheduled to face the Cranes of Uganda in their final Group C match at 5 p.m. later today.
Away from the bonus talks, winger Samuel Chukwueze provided a light moment during preparations when he voiced his feelings about the conditions in Morocco.
“I don’t like this weather [in Morocco], it’s like London,” Chukwueze tells teammate Alex Iwobi as the players head out for a team walk.
“But you like London,” Iwobi asked Chukwueze.
The AC Milan loanee then replied, “My guy, with the weather in London, you can at least see the bright future.”
Nigeria have enjoyed a strong start to the tournament, recording wins over Tanzania and Tunisia to sit top of Group C with six points.
