Arne Slot Plays Down Sack Talk As Liverpool Slip Further Into Crisis After PSV Rout

Arne Slot insists he is not spending a moment worrying about whether he will keep his job, even as Liverpool sink deeper into trouble after another painful defeat.

Anfield fell silent on Wednesday night when PSV Eindhoven tore through Liverpool with a 4-1 win in the Champions League, a result that has only magnified the club’s alarming drop in form.

The setback was Liverpool’s ninth loss in 12 matches across all competitions, leaving the Premier League champions sliding both at home and abroad.

Speaking after the match, Slot admitted the performance was nowhere near the level expected but said speculation over his position is not where his attention lies.

“I am not worried. My focus is on other things than worrying about my own position. I need to do better, I know that.

“I speak to the Liverpool hierarchy, we have those talks, but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to tell me that they trust me! We do have normal conversations, and I feel the trust. I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet, so let’s see!” he said.

Slot described the manner of the defeat as difficult to understand given the talent in the squad.

“This is very unexpected if you look at the quality that we have,” he said.

“Is it a lack of confidence? I didn’t see that in the first half. It’s not the mentality that these players have shown so many times since I’m here.”

Since taking over from Jürgen Klopp in the summer, Slot has not faced a spell as troubling as this. Liverpool, who were expected to mount another strong challenge this season, now sit 12th in the Premier League and 13th in their Champions League group.

The heavy loss to PSV came after back-to-back 3-0 defeats to Manchester City and Nottingham Forest, adding to the sense of urgency around the club.

Even so, Slot repeated that he will not be distracted by talk of dismissal.

“I’m not worried,” he said when pressed on his future.

“What I mean with that is that my focus is on other things than worrying about my own position.

“I try to analyze, try to help the players as much as I can and it’s obvious that I don’t do it in the way I did that last season because when you talk about individual errors, I think that’s also something that comes from a team effort.”
