National Convention: Full List Of Newly Elected PDP Officials

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected new members into its National Working Committee following a national convention held over the weekend at Adamasingba Stadium in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The convention, attended by approximately 3,000 accredited delegates, resulted in the election of 20 national officers following a voting exercise that lasted several hours.

Naija News reports that former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Turaki, emerged as the party’s national chairman, scoring 1,516 votes as the sole candidate.

His emergence followed the last-minute withdrawal of Lado Danmarke, the PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate in Katsina State, who nonetheless received 275 votes cast before delegates were informed of his withdrawal.

The party had earlier zoned its presidential ticket to the South and its national chairmanship to the North, in line with its power-balancing arrangement.

Subsequently, several North-West stakeholders endorsed Turaki as their consensus aspirant.

The Nyesom Wike-backed faction had sought various court orders to stop the convention, fueling weeks of internal wrangling.

However, the party secured a favourable judgment from an Oyo State High Court, allowing the exercise to proceed in Ibadan.

Despite the tension and legal hostilities, voting continued without major disruption.

Solarin Sunday Adekunle was elected Deputy National Organising Secretary with 633 votes.

All elected officers were returned as consensus candidates, though voting was conducted to affirm their positions.
