Borussia Dortmund’s new signing, Marcel Sabitzer has revealed how sorry he feels for struggling Manchester United who failed to offer him a permanent contract at the end of last season.

Recall that Marcel Sabitzer joined Manchester United on loan from Bayern Munich on January 31, 2023, as a backup to the then-injured Christian Eriksen with an option for a permanent deal.

While at Manchester United, Sabitzer made 18 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing an assist. He helped United to win the Carabao Cup and also finish in the top four which has become an unusual occurrence at Old Trafford.

Despite that, the 29-year-old Austrian midfielder wasn’t offered a permanent contract and was allowed to return to Bayern Munich.

At Bayern Munich, coach Thomas Tuchel didn’t have him in his plans, hence, he had to move to Borussia Dortmund for a transfer fee worth €19 million on July 24, 2023.

In his absence, Manchester United have had the worst start to a season in over 60 years, especially in the Premier League where they have recorded five defeats and 6 wins in 11 games. They are currently sitting in the 8th spot with 18 points, 9 points from first-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

While addressing his time at Manchester United, Marcel Sabitzer told German journalist, Raphael Honigstein, that he feels “very positive about my time at Man United, I’d have loved to stay”.

He added, “You ask yourself: what’s going on? I see there’s a lot of noise, the results are not good, and they’ve had defeats at home, which almost felt unthinkable last season. And there’s still the unresolved situation of the ownership”.

“I feel sorry for them because they’re all good guys, and extremely hungry for success”.
