Officers of the Enugu State have uncovered a child—stealing syndicate at Igogoro village in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area.

Naija News reports the operation, which was a joint collaboration with the Neighbourhood Watch Group, took place on October 27, 2023, at about 1.30 p.m.

The operatives arrested one Ifeanyi Omeke, 21, who confessed of attempting to steal a one-year, three-month-old girl child for ritual purposes.

Speaking about the incident, the state Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, on Sunday, said that the suspect was nabbed after he sneaked to steal a one-year-old- girl child.

Ndukwe stated that “the suspect was nabbed after he sneaked into the complainant’s house in the mentioned community and attempted to steal a one-year, three-month-old girl child.

“The suspect confessed to the crime, stating that he was contracted by his cohorts at large, to steal children for ritual and other criminal purposes.”

The statement noted that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further thorough investigation that will lead to the arrest of other members of the criminal syndicate and their prosecution.
