The manager of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola has claimed that some unnamed people outside the club want his striker, Erling Haaland to fail.

Haaland did not score in City’s opening Group G games against Red Star Belgrade and RB Leipzig following an incredible first season in which he scored 52 goals in 53 games to lead the team to the Treble, including their first Champions League title.

Haaland’s goal drought especially in the Champions League is coming at a time when the club’s major assist provider, Kevin de Bruyne is sidelined due to an injury, and Ilkay Gundogan has moved to FC Barcelona.

In the first half of Manchester City’s Champions League game away at Bern, Switzerland, Haaland appeared agitated, especially after missing a one-on-one in the 23rd minute against a lowly-rated Young Boys.

Haaland finally got a breakthrough in the game when Manchester City’s Rodri won a penalty for the club in the 67th minute. The 23-year-old Norwegian striker slammed home the penalty to score his first Champions League goal after six matches, from last season.

After the Champions League game which ended in a 3-1 victory for the Premier League champions, Pep Guardiola stressed that Haaland would keep scoring for the rest of his football career.

“It is important to have the chances, the people want him to fail,” Guardiola told TNT Sports.

“I am sorry, but this guy will score goals all his life. With the chances, he is an incredible threat.

“The players need the ability to find the pass like Kevin de Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan. But he is going to score until the last day he plays football.”

Erling Haaland is expected to step up on Sunday, October 29, when Manchester City visit Old Trafford for their 10th league game of the season. City is currently sitting in the second spot with 21 points in 9 games, two points below first-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
