Victor Boniface Not Happy With Bundesliga Record

Nigerian forward, Victor Boniface is not excited that he broke the German Bundesliga 29-year-old record in the game between his team, Bayer Leverkusen and Heidenheim.

Boniface is now the player in the history of the German Bundesliga with the most shots on goal in the league’s first five games.

In the 1994-1995 German Bundesliga season, Uwe Wegmann who was playing for Bochum became the first player in the history of the league to register 25 shots on target in five games.

Since then, no player has been able to overtake such a feat even though the league has witnessed the arrival and departure of deadly attackers like Robert Lewandowski who currently plays for FC Barcelona in Spain, and Erling Haaland who currently plays for Manchester City in England.

Victor Boniface, who just arrived in the league from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise this summer, broke the age-long record with his 38 shots on target as his team beat newly promoted Heidenheim 4-1 at the BayArena on Sunday.

During the game, the Nigeria international scored in the 9th minute and also scored from the penalty spot in the 74th minute to take his goals tally to 8 in all competitions.

After the game, Victor Boniface declared his displeasure over the record and wished he had scored more goals with the shots.

He said, “If you have 38 shots on goal as a player, you should have scored at least 25 goals. So I don’t want to congratulate myself on that.”

Boniface will be in action on Saturday, September 30, when Bayer Leverkusen play Mainz away at the Mewa Arena. The kick-off time of the Bundesliga game is 2:30 p.m.
