The Dutch FA (KNVB) has confirmed that the abandoned Eredivisie game between Ajax and Feyenoord will be completed on Wednesday, September 27.

Since the game had to be halted due to fans’ troubles, the game will now be played at Ajax’s Johan Cruyff Arena behind closed doors.

Recall that on Sunday, the reigning champions of the Dutch league, Feyenoord visited the prestigious Johan Cruyff Arena to continue with their title defense.

During the game between the two fierce rivals on Sunday, the match officials had to halt the game in the first half as the spectators, mostly Ajax fans, began to throw flares to the pitch.

Ajax fans threw flares on the pitch.

Afterward, the game resumed with the hope that the fans would be calm but they continued with their violent behaviour.

Hence, in the 56th minute, the match officials finally decided to halt the match permanently when the visitors were leading 3-0.

Earlier today, the Dutch FA announced that the match will resume at 2 p.m WAT. on Wednesday, September 27, behind closed doors.

Also, Ajax’s game against FC Volendam which was earlier scheduled to hold on Wednesday has been postponed indefinitely.

“The basic principle is that the competition must be as fair as possible and that a match should therefore preferably be decided on the field. The match must then be resumed as soon as possible,” a statement from the Dutch FA read.

Meanwhile, Ajax have issued a statement to declare the displeasure over the new arrangement, citing fixture congestion and threatening legal action if the decision is not receded.

“The competition and cup program is now being adjusted by the KNVB for four clubs due to the completion of an abandoned match. Not only the clubs but also the supporters are victims of this,” Ajax said.
