Tottenham Hotspur Beat Manchester United At Spurs Stadium

Coach Erik ten Hag learnt in the hardest way possible that his Manchester United side are still a work in progress as they suffered a stunning 2-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur earlier today, August 19.

Going into the Premier League match-week-two encounter at Tottenham Hotspur stadium, most pundits predicted that the Red Devils would take the day given how star-studded they are and coach Ten Hag’s effect.

Also, the fact that Tottenham Hotspur faced the Red Devils without Harry Kane who moved to Bayern Munich earlier this month made it easier to predict that United would take the day.

However, coach Ange Postecoglou and his boys proved they wanted it the most, especially in the second 45 minutes.

After a barren first 45 minutes, Pape Matar Sarr opened the scoring in the 49th minute after converting Kulusevski’s deflected cross.

The goal motivated Tottenham Hotspur to push for more as they continued to put United’s defence under intense pressure.

Coach Erik ten Hag introduced a series of players to respond to the scoreline including Jadon Sancho but they couldn’t provide the needed answer.

Instead, it was the club’s most reliable defender, Lautaro Martínez that doubled the hosts’ lead via an own goal. The Argentine defender was left helpless as Davies’ goal-attempt deflected off him and rolled into the bottom-right corner.

After drawing their opening game 2-2 last weekend, Tottenham Hotspur gave their home fans something to cheer for the whole week by beating United 2-0.

Spurs’ next game is against Bournemouth at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 26. While Manchester United’s next game is against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford at 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 26.
