Paris Saint Germain (PSG) seem to be determined to cut down on the number of superstar footballers on their roster as they commence their 2023-2024 French Ligue 1 campaign today, August 12.

PSG, who are the reigning French Ligue 1 champions, will commence the new campaign against Lorient at the Parc des Princes. The kickoff time is 20:00.

While the club’s fans are excited that league football is back, the future of the club’s big names is still unclear as more actions and inactions continue to prove that all is not well at the club.

The reported omission of Brazilian winger Neymar, French forward Kylian Mbappé, and Italian star Marco Verratti from the squad that will face Lorient tonight is a pointer to the aforementioned.

The reason why the players were left out of the squad has not been made official yet, but Naija News gathered that Neymar was left out of the squad because of an unknown injury. However, he is expected to return to action on August 15, 2023.

Meanwhile, transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, reported that Neymar, Kylian Mbappé, and Marco Verratti were left out of the squad due to their possible exit from the club.

Recall that Kylian Mbappe and PSG have been having a contract face-off as the player is determined not to renew his contract, which will expire next summer. On the other hand, PSG are determined to sell him this summer as he is no longer a part of the club’s project.

The 24-year-old France international wants to spend this season, which is the last year in his contract, at PSG and then leave the club on a free transfer next summer, a plan the French champions are not ready to be a part of.

On the other hand, Neymar and PSG have reportedly agreed to part ways this summer, but no ideal deal has landed for the Brazilian winger, who still has two years on his current contract.

Lastly, Verratti has reportedly agreed to a move to a Saudi Arabian club since Luis Enrique had said he is not part of his plans. The Italian player is also open to options in Europe as he numbers his days at PSG.
