West Ham Agree To Pay £60 Million For Harry Maguire, Ward-Prowse

West Ham United have reached an agreement with Manchester United to sign the English defender Harry Maguire and with Southampton for the signature of James Ward-Prowse.

The two potential signings are expected to cost West Ham United a total of £60 million. This means that West Ham will pay about £30 million each for Harry Maguire and James Ward-Prowse.

Recall that Maguire joined United for a record-breaking £80 million for a defender in August 2019. Weeks after his arrival, he was named the club’s captain.

Since last season, the 30-year-old Maguire has been battling to regain his place in United’s first team. To make things worse for him, he was stripped of the captaincy armband due to his poor run of form.

Even though the England international has not reached a personal agreement with West Ham United, reports claimed that the London-based club would secure his signature since he is willing to leave United this summer.

Maguire played 30 games for United last season, however, just eight of those games were league games.

Ahead of next season, he is expected to be United’s fifth-choice central defender, behind Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Rafael Varane, and Victor Lindelof.

On the other hand, West Ham have been trying to sign Ward-Prowse for the bulk of the summer, but Southampton, who were relegated last season, have continuously rejected their offers.

However, it now appears that Southampton will lose their captain this summer as West Ham are attempting to bolster their squad after selling Declan Rice of England to Arsenal for £105 million and Gianluca Scamacca of Italy to Atalanta for £21.5 million.

The manager of West Ham, David Moyes, had been trying to sign Scott McTominay from Manchester United in addition to being close to signing Edson Alvarez from Ajax to replace Rice.
