Everton have completed the signing of Ashley Young who has been without a club since his contract with Aston Villa expired on June 30, 2023.

Everton and Ashley Young agreed to a one-year deal which will expire after the 2023-2024 season.

This means that the 38-year-old Young is Everton’s first signing under manager Sean Dyche who is currently with the club in a preseason training camp in Switzerland.

Before the former England international decided to join Everton, Championship club Luton, and a couple of Saudi Pro League clubs showed interest in him.

After sealing his move to Everton, Ashley Young said, “I am delighted to be an Everton player and to have joined this massive club.

“I can’t wait for the season to start and walking out at Goodison Park is going to be an unbelievable feeling and to hear the passionate fans behind me.

“The manager was important in me signing. I know him and know what his passion and desire is like. His honesty, will to work hard and his hunger for the game is second to none.”

Before he lost his place in the Three Lions of England permanently, Ashley Young made 39 appearances for his country. He took part in the 2018 World Cup semi-final defeat to Croatia.

He helped Manchester United win the Europa League and League Cup during his years at Old Trafford. In his club and national team career, Young has appeared in over 700 games, including 32 for Villa last season.

He is expected to join up with his Everton teammates who have been having a five-day training camp in Switzerland since Monday. The Premier League club will play a friendly game with Stade Nyonnais on Friday.
