Ogun State Government has announced the names of the 16 people who will serve as members of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2024 National Sports Festival.

Tokunbo Talabi, secretary to the state government, announced Bukola Olopade, a former commissioner for youths and sports in the state, as chairman and Tilewa Adebayo, a sports enthusiast, as co-chairman during the unveiling of the LOC in Abeokuta, the state capital, on Tuesday, July 11.

Two times Olympic silver medalist Falilat Ogunkoya-Omotayo (MON), Dr. Emmanuel Igbinosa, Dr. Kweku Tandoh, Prof. Oluwaseun Omotayo, Dare Alebiosu, Kunle Solaja, Olusegun Oyende, Olatunji Onatolu, Modele Sharafa-Yussuf, Demola Are, Abiodun Elegbede, and Ola Adisa are also members of the committee.

Talabi announced that the LOC was tasked with creating subcommittees that must comprise diverse stakeholders to ensure a trouble-free exercise and create a unique National Sports Festival.

Recall that in May this year, the Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development signed a Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of the Federal Government and the Ogun State Government over the hosting rights of the National Sports Festival.

During the ceremony, Governor Dapo Abiodun declared that Ogun was poised to host the 22nd National Sports Festival in 2024. He claimed that they had supportive sponsors and knowledgeable employees who can help to make the event a success.

To that end, the former minister expressed the FG’s approval of the proposal and noted that Ogun State was chosen as the next host of the festival due to its culture of sports development, accessibility of sporting infrastructure, and potential to host a suitable festival that would endure for a long time.
