The Governor Dapo Abiodun-led government of Ogun State has declared August 20 as a public holiday to celebrate ‘Isese Day’ across the state.

The announcement was made on Tuesday (today) following the approval of the State House of Assembly, Naija News reports.

This follows the adoption of a motion moved by the House Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff (APC – Ado-Odo Ota I), which was subsequently seconded by Lukmon Adeleye (PDP – Odogbolu).

Adegoke Adeyanju (APC-Yewa North 1), who sponsored the motion, stated that the day was intended to promote the state’s people’s customs and culture. He read the amended resolution first, and Damilola Soneye (APC-Obafemi Owode) seconded it.

Other lawmakers who accepted the motion believed the Isese traditional Day event would enhance Yoruba land’s traditional legacy.

It was stated in the announcement today that the state government would designate August 20 as a work-free day for the citizens.

In his remark, the Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo (APC – Ifo I), stated that the Cultural Day would allow parents to pass on the culture and traditions of the kingdom to the younger generation.

“Isese is a Yoruba name that tells us what we inherited from our parents, and it’s also a way to continually promote culture and tradition so they do not go into extinction,” he said.
